Astrogation Dossier: The Sovereign Ark
The Idari—known across the galaxy as The Eternal Colony Ship—is one of the most remarkable sovereign polities in the Mataras System. Unlike its planetary peers, the Idari is not a celestial sphere born of accretion disks or stellar condensation; it is a colossal, manufactured world-ship of monumental scale. Measuring roughly two and a half miles in diameter and over ten miles in length, this titanic rotating cylinder floats in a permanent, tranquil orbit in the middle reaches of the solar system, trailing just beyond the ragged perimeter of The Diaspora.
Despite being a vessel of artificial construction, the Idari holds full, equal status as one of the fourteen recognized sovereign worlds of the Pact Worlds. Inside its sweeping curved interior drum, an entire transplanted civilization thrives: complete with sandy desert ranges, artificial canyon rivers, bustling metropolitan arcologies, ancient temples of honor, and high-tech zero-gravity engineering docks. It is the permanent home of the Kasathas—a proud, stoic, four-armed race who crossed the interstellar void in search of salvation, only to find destiny among the stars of Mataras.
History & The Great Exodus
The story of the Idari is rooted in tragedy, endurance, and cultural discipline.
The Dying Star of Kasath
Centuries prior to the ratification of the Absalom Pact, in an era preceding The Gap, the red giant sun of the Kasathas’ ancestral homeworld, Kasath, began its terminal expansion. As their arid cradles scorched and oceans boiled into dead salt flats, the Kasatha civilization realized extinction was imminent.
At that time, faster-than-light travel had not yet been gifted to the galaxy by Triune’s Signal. Kasatha astronomers turned their deep-space optical arrays toward distant star systems and identified Golarion—a verdant, water-rich jewel in the Mataras system—as an ideal sanctuary for relocation.

The Centuries of Solitude
Marshaling the planetary wealth and labor of their entire species, the Kasathas constructed the Idari—a self-contained generation ark designed to preserve their biology, philosophy, and history across centuries of silent sub-light travel. When the ship sealed its heavy titanium bulkhead airlocks and ignited its massive chemical and ion drives, thousands of Kasatha pioneers entered the dark between stars.
Generations lived, loved, labored, and passed away inside the spinning metal cylinder. A culture of rigid discipline, conservation, and stoic honor took root, ensuring that resources were never squandered and ancestral customs remained unbroken across centuries of interstellar isolation.
Arrival & The Broken Promise (240 AG)
In 240 AG, the sensors of the Idari detected the outer gravitational boundaries of the Mataras system. The ship decelerated, preparing to deliver its weary people to the promised paradise of Golarion.
Instead, the Kasathas were struck by two staggering revelations:
- The Missing World: Golarion had vanished entirely during the historical void known as The Gap, leaving only Absalom Station floating in its empty orbital coordinates.
- The New Galaxy: In the centuries since the Idari’s departure, Triune had broadcast the secrets of the The Drift (3 AG). The younger, upstart races of the system had leaped forward technologically, colonizing the habitable moons and continents of Castrovel, Akiton, and Verces.
Many young Kasathan military officers urged the high commanders to conquer a territory by force, using the Idari’s immense planetary-scale kinetic drives and heavy point-defense armaments to seize land on Akiton or Castrovel. However, the ruling council of elders—the Doyenate—refused to dishonor their ancestors through unwarranted invasion. Recognizing that the vessel had become their true ancestral motherland during the long voyage, they chose to moor the Idari permanently in a stable solar orbit and declare the ship itself their permanent, sovereign home.
When the warmongering Veskarium invaded the system decades later, the Kasathas brought the Idari’s disciplined martial corps and laser batteries to the defense of the system, becoming a founding signatory of the Absalom Pact in 291 AG.
Anatomy of the World-Ship
The interior of the Idari is an inward-curving cylindrical landscape where the horizon rises in all directions until it loops directly overhead. Artificial centripetal force generated by the ship’s constant rotation produces a comfortable, uniform environment along the inner hull.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
1. Almesla (The Spire City)
The capital and largest city on the Idari is Almesla, constructed along the inner curve of the drum near the ship’s forward quadrant.
- Architecture: Built of sweeping sandstone composites, tiered adobe terraces, and bronze-tinted solar glass that mirror the ancient architecture of lost Kasath.
- The Seat of the Doyenate: At the city’s heart rises the Spire of Governance, housing the legislative chambers of the Doyenate, the diplomatic embassies of the Pact Worlds, and the grand archives of ancestral memory.
- Commerce & Visitors: Almesla is the primary port of call for foreign dignitaries, merchants, and tourists, featuring open bazaars where Kasathan four-bladed swords, fine desert silks, and precision chronometers are traded under strict customs inspection.
2. The Sholar Adoth (The Ancestral Desert)
Dominating the central interior of the cylinder is the Sholar Adoth, a vast artificial desert spanning miles of the inner hull.
- Preserved Ecosystem: Filled with thousands of tons of sand, clay, and rock transported directly from Kasath before its death, the Sholar Adoth is maintained at high temperatures to simulate their scorching homeworld.
- Nomadic Encampments: Several traditionalist Kasatha clans refuse to live within the steel and composite walls of Almesla. Instead, they dwell in the open sands of the Sholar Adoth, pitching goat-hair tents, hunting domesticated desert reptiles, and practicing ancestral survival rituals beneath the simulated sky.
3. The Red Rill
Circling the entire interior circumference of the cylinder is an engineered riverway known as the Red Rill. Lined with iron-rich clay and filtered runoff, this sparkling canal supplies fresh water to the agricultural sectors, irrigates the perimeter of the Sholar Adoth, and serves as an aquatic transport route for flat-bottomed cargo scows.
4. The Agricultural Rings & Hydroponics
Located in the forward hull cap are multi-tiered hydroponic bays, aeroponic orchards, and automated algae vats. These facilities produce the synthetic proteins, nutritious fruit-pastes, and oxygen needed to sustain the vessel’s population without relying on off-world supply chains from Castrovel.
5. The Aft Core & Vanguard Fortress
The aft cap of the ship houses the engineering miracle that carried the Idari across the void:
- The Fusion Matrix: Massive sub-light impulse engines, thermal fusion reactors, and emergency antimatter reserves that could, if necessary, propel the ship out of the system.
- The Idari Vanguard: The elite military garrison responsible for the ship’s point defense, kinetic rail-cannons, and internal security. The Vanguard operates grueling zero-g combat simulators inside the central non-rotating hub axle.
Society & Kasatha Culture
Kasatha society on the Idari is governed by deep-seated codes of honor, lineage, stoicism, and social responsibility.
Four-Armed Physiology & The Mouth Veil
- Physical Form: Kasathas are tall, lean humanoids with smooth, leathery skin, elongated hairless craniums, and four coordinated arms that allow them to wield multiple tools or weapons with fluid precision.
- The Sacred Veil: In Kasatha culture, the mouth is considered an intensely private, vulnerable, and sacred organ associated with feeding and intimacy. Revealing one’s bare mouth to strangers, business partners, or the public is considered an unforgivable cultural obscenity. Every Kasatha wears elaborate mouth veils, woven scarves, or decorated rebreathers from early childhood.
The Temperance (The Great Wandering)
One of the most defining cultural institutions of the Idari is The Temperance.
- Upon reaching adulthood, every young Kasatha is expected—and culturally required—to leave the Idari and wander the wider galaxy for at least one year.
- During their Temperance, youth travel to distant worlds like Absalom Station, Verces, or the The Diaspora, testing their self-reliance, absorbing foreign perspectives, and confronting the chaos of the wider universe.
- When their Temperance concludes, they may return to the Idari to take their place in their clan and contribute their hard-won wisdom, or choose to remain in the wider stars as permanent expatriates.
The Cultural Schism
A quiet, generational tension currently grips the Idari:
- The Traditionalists: Conservative elders and clan matriarchs who advocate for strict adherence to ancestral custom, viewing foreign technologies like cybernetic augmentation, modern holovid entertainment, and commercial Drift travel with wariness.
- The Progressives: Young Kasathas returning from their Temperance who wish to modernize the ship, integrate advanced AI, open more commercial berths to foreign aliens, and expand Kasatha influence throughout the Pact Worlds.
Governance & Galactic Standing
The Idari is ruled by the Doyenate, a council of respected clan leaders, veteran ship officers, and revered scholars presided over by the First Doyen.
- The Pact Council: The Idari maintains an active, highly respected delegation on Absalom Station. While the Kasathas rarely initiate aggressive legislation, their votes carry immense weight as arbiters of peace, constitutional fidelity, and ethical governance.
- Tensions with Eox: The Idari maintains a watchful, suspicious gaze toward the neighboring dead world of Eox. The disciplined, life-cherishing Kasathas view the undead Bone Sages with profound moral disgust, remaining perpetually vigilant against necromantic espionage and rogue corsairs from the The Diaspora.
Campaign & Adventure Hooks
- The Unveiling Scandal: A high-ranking Doyen is found assassinated within their sanctum in Almesla, their sacred mouth veil deliberately stripped and stolen. The party is secretly retained by the First Doyen to recover the relic and apprehend the killer before rival clans spark a civil honor-war across the cylinder.
- Sabotage on the Drive Core: An extremist cell of anti-Pact traditionalists has barricaded themselves inside the aft propulsion bays, threatening to fire the ancient sub-light engines and slingshot the Idari out of orbit toward Eox. The PCs must infiltrate the zero-g maintenance tunnels and disable the ignition conduits before orbital collapse.
- The Lost Temperance: A Kasatha noble heir has disappeared during their Temperance in the lawless reaches of Broken Rock. The player characters are contracted by the youth’s desperate clan to extract them from a syndicate of Free Captain kidnappers without violating the delicate diplomatic peace between the Idari and the pirate fleets.
