Divine Nature & Cosmic Philosophy

Among all the gods venerated across the Pact Worlds, Ibra is perhaps the most solitary, alien, and deeply enigmatic. Known universally as The Inscrutable, Ibra has no recorded gender, no physical avatar, no spoken mythology, and no revealed holy scriptures.

While other deities offer salvation, moral commandments, military victory, or technological dominance, Ibra offers only a question: What is the purpose of the universe, and what is our place within it?

To an Ibran, the cosmos is not a random collection of cold matter and thermonuclear reactions; it is a colossal, living puzzle waiting to be unraveled. Every nebula, every gravitational anomaly, every ancient ruin buried in an asteroid, and every unmapped star is a deliberate clue left behind by an unfathomable cosmic intelligence.

Worship & The Sacred Silence

Because Ibra does not speak through prophetic visions, burning bushes, or direct divine interventions, worship of the Inscrutable is quiet, scholarly, and deeply meditative:

1. Temples as Observatories

A temple of Ibra is never an ornate cathedral of gold and idols; it is an astronomical observatory.

  • Built in locations with pristine, unobstructed views of deep space—such as high mountain peaks on Castrovel, airless craters on Verces, or unmapped, solitary asteroids in The Diaspora.
  • The altar is typically a powerful optical telescope, a quantum gravitational sensor array, or an interactive holographic star-map displaying real-time galactic drift.

2. The Clergy: Stargazers & Seekers

Priests of Ibra act as astronomers, mathematicians, and archaeologists:

  • They dedicate their lives to recording orbital anomalies, translating dead alien alphabets discovered in pre-Gap ruins, and predicting supernovas.
  • To discover a previously uncataloged star system or decipher a sealed vault from an extinct civilization is considered the equivalent of performing a miraculous holy sacrament.

Ibra in the Diaspora

Nowhere in the Pact Worlds does the silent majesty of Ibra feel more immediate than in the cold, crystalline expanses of The Diaspora:

1. The Children of the Twins (Sarcesians)

The native Sarcesians hold a profound, ancient reverence for Ibra:

  • Gliding through the hard vacuum on wings of pure coherent starlight, Sarcesian mystics view their celestial flight as an act of physical communion with the Inscrutable.
  • On their family crags, Sarcesians erect slender, brass sighting-spires aligned with distant stellar clusters, tracking the slow, ancient cosmic drift of their shattered sister worlds Damiar and Iovo.

2. The Monks of The River Between

Along the banks of The River Between, within the hollowed limestone cavern known as The Hermitage of the Current, Ibran hermits meditate upon the metaphysical wonder:

  • They study the river’s mysterious flow through open vacuum, believing its uncapped freshwater current is a living brushstroke painted by Ibra to remind mortals that life can flourish in the harshest cosmic voids.

3. The Decipherers of Pre-Gap Relics

Deep within the drifting wrecks of the Wrecking Grounds and subterranean crevasses on Nisis, Ibran expeditions braving void monsters seek out artifacts of the Gap. They believe that even if mortal memories were stolen, the stars themselves remember the true history of the cosmos.

Relations with Other Faiths

Ibra exists beyond the petty rivalries of pantheons, viewing other gods as merely different facets of the cosmic grand design:

  • Triune (Curious Kinship): Ibrans view the machine god of the Drift as a fascinating, newly awakened cosmic variable. Many Ibran astrogators work alongside Triunite priests to map the hyperspace topologies of the Drift.
  • Desna (Harmonious Respect): While Desna celebrates the joy, luck, and emotional freedom of travel, Ibra appreciates the mathematical and astronomical architecture of the stars themselves. Worshippers of both faiths frequently travel aboard the same exploration starships.
  • Besmara (Distant Amusement): Ibrans view the violent piracy of the Free Captains on Broken Rock as fleeting, short-sighted mortal noise, though they frequently buy passage aboard corsair sloops to reach remote, dangerous asteroid ruins.
  • The Devourer & The Great Old Ones (Cosmic Adversaries): While Ibra embraces the infinite mystery of space, worshippers fiercely oppose nihilistic cults that seek the violent collapse or maddening entropy of the cosmic order.

Campaign & Adventure Hooks

  • The Alignment of the Twelve: An ancient Ibran observatory hidden in a tumbling asteroid in The Diaspora detects a rare cosmic alignment of all twelve Pact Worlds with an unmapped dark star in the Vast. The PCs are hired to repair the observatory’s quantum lenses and defend the astronomers from void-born horrors drawn to the cosmic resonance.
  • The Puzzle of Damiar: A floating pre-Gap temple submerged along The River Between unseals itself for the first time in millennia. Inside sits a massive, multifaceted crystalline polyhedron inscribed with astronomical ciphers of Ibra. The party must solve its mathematical trials before rival corporate excavators destroy the relic.
  • The Silent Message: An exploratory probe sent into the sunless depths of Nisis recovers a repeating radio transmission encoded in ancient prime numbers originating from the planetary core. An Ibran mystic hires the party to pilot a deep-sea submersible to the bottom of the abyss to locate the source of the transmission.
