Origin & The Wilderness of Ukulam
The Khizars are the indigenous, sentient plant-folk native to Ukulam, the vast, untamed northern continent of Castrovel. While the rest of the planet was shaped by the ancient wars between Lashunta and Formians, Ukulam remained a primordial wilderness protected by impenetrable toxic spore-seas, colossal saurian predators, and ancient planetary isolation treaties.
Deep within these trackless jungles, Khizars evolved from semi-ambulatory photosynthetic flora into sophisticated, bipedal humanoid beings. Possessing no eyes, ears, or bones in the mammalian sense, Khizars perceive the universe as a dynamic symphony of thermal currents, vibrational ripples, and biochemical scents.
When the Xenowardens established research and preservation outposts across Ukulam following the signing of the Absalom Pact, they encountered the Khizars living in peaceful, self-sustaining tree-canopy groves. Today, the Khizars serve as the primary custodians of Ukulam’s wilderness, with an increasing number of adventurous individuals journeying beyond the atmosphere to study alien biospheres across the Pact Worlds.

Anatomy & Photosynthetic Biology
A Khizar is a marvel of evolutionary botany:
- The Sightless Gaze: A Khizar’s face is a smooth, bark-like mask devoid of traditional eyes. In their place sit two deep, specialized sensory depressions that perceive infrared radiation and body heat with millimeter accuracy. Coupled with vibrational hairs along their limbs, a Khizar can detect moving creatures in pitch darkness or through dense smoke.
- The Bloom Crown: The top of a Khizar’s head is adorned with a cluster of vibrant, semi-flexible wooden petals. These petals unfurl during the day to absorb sunlight for photosynthesis and emit complex pheromonal clouds that convey mood and intention to other plant life.
- Cellulose Resilience: Their bodies contain no blood or marrow. Wounds bleed a clear, sticky amber resin that quickly hardens when exposed to air, naturally sealing punctures and preventing infection.
Culture & The Living Loom
Khizar philosophy is rooted in the veneration of Oras—the god of adaptation, natural evolution, and living change:
- Root-Groves: Khizars do not construct metal cities. Their settlements are vertical communities woven directly into the canopies of colossal, thousand-foot ironwood trees in Ukulam, illuminated by glowing bioluminescent fungi.
- Partnership with the Xenowardens: Khizars share an intimate, unbreakable bond with the Xenowardens. Many serve as rangers, wardens, and field guides, defending the wilderness preserves of Castrovel against corporate poaching syndicates and illegal lumber cartels.
Campaign Hooks
- The Spore Blight: A mutated fungal blight sweeps through an ancestral Khizar root-grove in Ukulam, causing the ancient trees to rot from the inside out. The PCs are hired by a Khizar elder to escort a scientific team through predator-choked territory to locate an immune plant sample.
- The Poacher’s Incursion: Mercenaries working for an outer-rim bio-weapons firm invade Ukulam to harvest Khizar sap-glands for experimental regenerative drugs. The PCs must assist a band of Khizar scouts in repelling the high-tech invaders.
