๐Ÿ”ฎ Overview: The Floating Citadel of Arcane Sovereignty

The Inverted Pyramid is the oldest, most powerful, and secretive cabal of arcane spellcasters on Eraedal. While ordinary wizards study in academies or join municipal guildhalls, the members of the Inverted Pyramid belong to an elite brotherhood that literally hovers above mortal authority.

The syndicateโ€™s headquarters is a marvel of ancient planar engineering: a gargantuan, four-sided pyramid carved from black stone that floats completely upside down within an extradimensional demiplane pinned directly above the pinnacle of the Spire. Accessible only through keyed teleportation portals scattered across Ptolus or via plane shift, the interior of the pyramid defies natural gravity, with spiraling library-ramps, planar observatories, and crystalline summoning chambers cascading downward from the subterranean โ€œbaseโ€ toward the suspended โ€œpoint.โ€

Historically forged in blood and secrecy during the Western Empireโ€™s Inquisitions (560โ€“609 IA) when Emperor Addaresโ€™s edicts outlawed arcane casting on pain of burning, the Pyramid served as the underground railroad that saved hundreds of mages from the imperial pyres.

When the secular leadership of Ptolus boldly broke with western imperial orthodoxy in 615 IA by proclaiming the city an open haven for arcane spellcasters, the Inverted Pyramid anchored its extradimensional redoubt above the bay, becoming the de facto protector of magical freedom across the continent.

  1. Archmage Jevicca Nor: The charismatic, brilliant, and red-haired archmage who serves as the public face and political voice of the Pyramid. Uniquely approachable for a high-tier spellcaster, Jevicca frequently visits high-end Midtown lounges like the Ghostly Minstrel and Danburyโ€™s Tavern, actively hiring promising delving companies to investigate anomalous subterranean surges.
  2. The Planar Watchers: While mortal politics burn in the Three-way Civil War, the Pyramidโ€™s astronomers and planar seers watch the deep tremors of Eraedal. They know that the cosmic seals holding the Galchutt in the deep mantle are fraying, and they monitor the unsealing of the Banewarrens with mounting dread.
  3. The Anti-Inquisition Net: The syndicate has never forgotten the โ€œDays of Blood.โ€ With Holy Emperor Rehobath Ylestos and Grand Inquisitor Frederick Vane now established in Ptolus, the Pyramidโ€™s counter-intelligence division keeps round-the-clock divination wards placed over the Holy Palace, ready to evacuate member mages if the church attempts to reinstate the Edict of Deviltry.

โš”๏ธ Pathfinder 2e Remaster Mechanics

The Inverted Pyramid grants its inducted members access to legendary spells, planar conduits, and high-level craftwork:

  • Pyramid Token (Key of the Point): Members carry an attuned obsidian pyramid pendant. As an 8-hour ritual, a member can attune the token to a permanent teleportation circle within the floating fortress, allowing them to cast Teleport directly to the Pyramidโ€™s entry hall once per week without error.
  • High Arcane Services: Members in good standing can commission scrolls and wands up to 9th rank, purchase rare planar materials (dawnsilver, cold iron, void-glass), and receive training in rare archetypes (Runesmith, Shadowcaster, Planar Savant).

๐Ÿงญ Story Hooks for Adventurers

  1. The Astral Tether Tremor: Jevicca Nor contacts the party after diviners in the floating fortress detect a violent metaphysical shockwave: the unsealing of the outer gate of the Banewarrens has caused the pyramidโ€™s dimensional tether to destabilize. She needs boots on the ground to investigate the breach.
  2. The Inquisitorial Kidnapping: Grand Inquisitor Vaneโ€™s Synod has secretly seized an apprentice wizard from Midtown, accusing him of practicing chaotic flesh-shaping. The Pyramid cannot legally assault the Iron Tower without triggering civil war, and hires the party as deniable mercenaries to extract the youth.
  3. The Banelord Spellbook: Delvers bring word of an intact spellbook belonging to one of Danarโ€™s fallen Banelords deep in the undercity. Jevicca tasks the party with recovering the tome before agents of Shigmaa Wuntad can harvest its apocalyptic rituals.
