🩸 Overview: The Servants of the Pit
The Fallen are the zealous, fiend-worshiping cultists, demonologists, and blood-mages who occupy the central nave and high ritual altars of the Dark Reliquary in the Necropolis. While their companions in the cathedral—the undead lords of The Forsaken—are motivated by cold survival and necromantic dominance, the Fallen are driven by religious fervor and apocalyptic desire.
Formed centuries ago by disgraced imperial nobles, renegade tiefling arcanists, and defrocked war-priests who abandoned the Western Empire’s state religion, the Fallen revere true fiends, demon princes, and the cosmic monstrosities of the Galchutt. They view mortality as an agonizing, fragile prison and believe that by tearing down the dimensional boundaries separating Eraedal from the Abyssal realms, they will be remade as immortal lords of ash and bone.
Operating beneath the foggy shadows of the Necropolis, the Fallen conduct blasphemous blood-rites, bind demonic thralls into obsidian vessels, and harvest dark planar energy welling up from subterranean rifts connecting to the Banewarrens.
🕯️ Relationship with the Undead: The Reliquary Schism
The alliance between the Fallen and the undead Forsaken inside the Dark Reliquary is fraught with escalating tension:
- Order vs. Chaos: The undead lords of the Forsaken (led by Vamal Shard) desire stability, territorial autonomy, and discreet blood-harvesting. They treat the Necropolis as their lawful empire and loathe unnecessary attention from the surface.
- The Apocalyptic Threat: The Fallen, in contrast, actively aid outside chaos cults like the Cult of the Ebon Hand and the warpriests of Shigmaa Wuntad. The Forsaken are increasingly alarmed that the Fallen’s reckless summonings will trigger an all-out military assault by Commissar Igor Urnst and the Order of the Dawn, destroying both factions in the crossfire.

🧭 Story Hooks for Adventurers
- The Abyssal Infiltration: A series of gruesome, ritualistic blood-draining murders in the Midtown slums leaves victims branded with the symbol of the Broken Star. The party traces the killers through the storm drains straight into the lower crypts of the Dark Reliquary.
- The Stolen Chaositech Ingot: The Fallen raid an imperial vault and seize a glowing chaositech cylinder stolen from the Banewarrens, intending to use it to power a massive summoning portal during an upcoming lunar eclipse.
- The Forsaken’s Secret Contract: Master necromancer Vamal Shard covertly contacts the party through a proxy at the Death’s Head Tavern, offering a substantial reward of ancient spells if the adventurers eliminate a fanatical Fallen priestess whose wild summonings are threatening the peace of the Necropolis.
