Overview: The Sword That Shields

The Exo-Guardians are the shield and spear of the Starfinder Society. While scholars decipher forgotten dialects and technomancers unravel computational mysteries, the Exo-Guardians stand vigil at the perimeter—weapons hot, kinetic shields charged, and senses alert for the nightmares of the void. They believe that exploration is inherently perilous, and that uncovering the secrets of The Vast inevitably awakens horrors that would gladly consume the Pact Worlds.

Whether battling voracious remnants of the Swarm, cleansing alien vaults infested with undead horrors, or repelling boarding actions by the Corpse Fleet, the Exo-Guardians throw themselves into the breach so that their scholarly companions can return alive. They do not fight for conquest, personal glory, or corporate profit; they fight to ensure that civilization endures against the monsters dwelling in the dark between the stars.

Leadership & Organization: The Heart of Zigvigix

Zigvigix the Indomitable

The heart and soul of the Exo-Guardians is Zigvigix, an extraordinarily cheerful, optimistic, and deeply empathetic Shirren soldier. Having lost half their body, multiple limbs, and major organ systems during the tragic Scoured Stars catastrophe that crippled the Society, Zigvigix was rebuilt through extensive cybernetic augmentation. Rather than becoming bitter or despairing, Zigvigix radiates unyielding warmth, boundless enthusiasm, an obsession with bubbly sugary sodas (particularly Strawberry Machine 2210), and a passionate love for cheerful Pact pop music.

Zigvigix leads through personal example, treating every field agent as cherished family:

  1. The Tactical Proving Grounds: Overseen personally by Zigvigix, where rookie Starfinders are drilled in breach-and-clear maneuvers, void-suit zero-G combat, and counter-ambush tactics before their first off-station mission.
  2. The Veteran Armory: A fortified subterranean complex within the Lorespire that leases mil-spec artillery, micro-fusion grenades, and powered armor frames to agents deploying into high-threat operational theaters.
  3. The Combat Rescue & Medevac Division: Dedicated teams on rapid-response alert, equipped with armored shuttles in The Arms to extract pinned-down exploration units from planetary kill-zones.

Headquarters & Presence on Absalom Station

The Exo-Guardians maintain a formidable martial footprint across Absalom Station:

  • The Proving Grounds & Armory (Lorespire Complex): Occupying a sprawling wing of The Lorespire Complex in The Ring, featuring subterranean firing ranges, zero-G simulation rings, and physical therapy rehabilitation facilities for wounded veterans.
  • Berth-7 Heavy Hangars: Fortified docking berths in The Arms where the faction’s heavily armed gunships and troop carriers undergo continuous maintenance.
  • Cooperation with Bastion: Close training ties with Bastion, the grand citadel of The Stewards, where Exo-Guardian drill instructors cross-train with peacekeeper special assault units.

Faction Benefits & Agent Capabilities

Agents who join the ranks of the Exo-Guardians benefit from military-grade hardware, combat training, and deep tactical camaraderie:

SpecialtyMechanical & Narrative Advantage
Heavy Ordnance RequisitionAccess to restricted heavy weaponry, advanced powered armor, explosive ordnance, and defensive force-field modules.
Defensive CoordinationEnhanced bodyguard tactics; specialized maneuvers to intercept incoming fire and shield vulnerable allies during firefights.
Xeno-Combat MasteryDeep knowledge of alien monster physiologies, allowing agents to identify damage vulnerabilities and special attack patterns of strange extra-galactic lifeforms.
Field Triage & ExtractionRapid casualty evacuation techniques, emergency combat stim application, and priority medevac shuttle dispatch.

Inter-Faction Dynamics

  • The Starfinder Society Core: Viewed as the indispensable martial backbone of the organization. First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo frequently relies on Exo-Guardians to escort diplomatic missions and recover stranded field teams.
  • Acquisitives: A functional partnership with occasional philosophical friction. While Exo-Guardians appreciate the heavy weapons and supplies Acquisitives fund, they despise seeing fallen comrades’ struggles turned into cheap sensationalized holovid entertainment.
  • Dataphiles: Highly complementary. The Dataphiles feed real-time sensor scans and structural schematics, which Exo-Guardian fireteams exploit on the ground.
  • Wayfinders: Fiercely protective bond. Wayfinders travel furthest into the unknown, and Exo-Guardians consider it their sacred duty to ensure those scouts have the defensive firepower to survive first contact.

GM Plot Hooks & Operational Scenarios

  1. The Scoured Stars Extraction: A distress beacon matches a missing Exo-Guardian gunship lost during the Scoured Stars incident, suddenly pinging from deep within an uncharted drift-anomaly. Zigvigix recruits the PCs to lead a rescue expedition into the unknown.
  2. The Stalker of the Spike: A lethal apex predator captured by a private collector escapes into the labyrinthine depths of The Spike and The Ghost Levels, stalking scavengers and dockworkers. The PCs must track down and destroy the bio-weapon before station casualties mount.
  3. Ambush at the Berth: As a returning exploration vessel docks in The Arms carrying a dangerous alien artifact, a strike team of Corpse Fleet commandos launches an assault to seize the cargo. The PCs must hold the line alongside Exo-Guardian defenders until station reinforcements arrive.
