Overview: The Conscience of Exploration
The Advocates represent the moral anchor and humanitarian vanguard of the Starfinder Society. While the thrill of discovering ancient alien ruins or amassing vast wealth drives many adventurers, the Advocates ask the hard questions that others overlook: What gives the Society the right to take relics from their native resting places? What happens to the vulnerable inhabitants of a frontier world when corporate mega-freighters arrive in the wake of Starfinder star-charts?
Formed in response to centuries of imperialistic excess and reckless tomb-raiding, the Advocates fight to ensure that the Society operates as a force for universal good rather than an engine of exploitation. They champion strict codes of archaeological ethics, advocate for the sovereignty and self-determination of newly discovered civilizations, provide free medical and disaster relief to marginalized communities on Absalom Station, and ensure that the voice of the powerless is heard in the highest halls of The Plenara.

Organization & Grassroots Leadership
The Mediation Council
Unlike factions dominated by a single charismatic commander, the Advocates operate through an egalitarian, consultative council of senior anthropologists, field medics, philosophers, and community organizers. Among their most respected voices is Ambassador Royo, a soft-spoken Kasatha diplomat renowned for negotiating non-violent settlements between planetary mining syndicates and indigenous populations.
The faction organizes its field operations into three major branches:
- The Cultural Preservation Division: Oversees the ethical review of artifacts brought into The Lorespire Complex. If an item is determined to be sacred or stolen from living cultures, the Advocates organize its respectful repatriation.
- The Community Relief Outreach: Operates free medical clinics, nutrient distribution kitchens, and legal aid clinics in the neglected under-decks of Downlow and Fogtown, ensuring that Absalom Station’s poorest residents benefit from the Society’s resources.
- The First Contact Ombudsman Office: Deploys trained observers alongside Wayfinders expeditions to monitor the sociological impact of first-contact scenarios, preventing accidental contamination or predatory trade agreements.
Headquarters & Base of Operations on Absalom Station
The Advocates choose to maintain their presence where the need is greatest:
- The Harmony Pavilions (Lorespire Complex): Open-air courtyards surrounded by calming gardens in The Ring, designed for neutral-ground dispute resolution, cultural dialogue, and philosophical debates.
- The Lowside Relief Dispensaries: Permanent community centers situated in Downlow and Fogtown, providing emergency medical care, clean water filtration, and refugee shelter to station underclasses.
- Liaison Offices near The Plenara: A modest suite of offices located near The Plenara, where Advocate lobbyists pressure the Pact Council to pass protective legislation for frontier worlds.
Faction Benefits & Agent Capabilities
Starfinders aligned with the Advocates are gifted communicators, compassionate healers, and respected ambassadors throughout the Pact Worlds:
| Specialization | Narrative & Mechanical Advantage |
|---|---|
| Cultural De-escalation | Specialized techniques to calm hostile or panicked groups, defusing combat situations through peaceful negotiation. |
| Field Medicine & Triage | Superior training in xenomedicine, emergency stabilization, and epidemic containment on remote worlds. |
| Repatriation Network | Unrivaled trust among indigenous and marginalized peoples, opening doors and gaining allies where corporate agents meet hostility. |
| Legal & Sanctuary Shielding | Ability to invoke humanitarian treaties and sanctuary laws to protect refugees, political dissidents, and whistleblowers. |
Inter-Faction Dynamics
- The Starfinder Society Leadership: First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo frequently calls upon the Advocates to smooth over diplomatic crises and repair the Society’s public image when rogue agents cause scandals.
- Acquisitives: Continuous and vehement ideological conflict. The Advocates view Radaszam’s commercialization as a stain on the Society’s honor, while Acquisitives dismiss the Advocates as naive bleeding-hearts.
- Wayfinders: A collaborative bond. Advocates accompany Wayfinder expeditions to ensure ethical first-contact protocols, earning deep mutual respect.
- Exo-Guardians: Complementary protectors. While Exo-Guardians wield physical weapons, Advocates wield diplomacy and medical supplies; together, they protect both the lives and the dignity of those caught in galactic conflicts.
GM Plot Hooks & Operational Scenarios
- The Repatriation Heist: An unscrupulous collector in The Eye is auctioning an irreplaceable funerary crown stolen from a pre-Gap tomb on an isolated world. The Advocates hire the PCs to legally—or covertly—recover the crown so it can be returned to its ancestral temple.
- Plague in Fogtown: An unknown alien spore accidentally brought back on a cargo shuttle from The Vast breaks out in the dense industrial alleys of Fogtown. The PCs must work with Advocate medics to contain the outbreak and track down the patient zero before station authorities impose a lethal purge quarantine.
- The Frontier Treaty Crisis: A predatory resource-extraction conglomerate plans to strip-mine an inhabited moon in The Vast, claiming the local inhabitants are non-sentient animals. The Advocates task the PCs with traveling to the moon, establishing conclusive proof of the species’ sapience, and rushing the evidence back to The Plenara before the orbital bombardment begins.
