Quick Facts
Location: Deep Convection Zone / Solar Mantle of Mataras (~45,000 miles beneath the photosphere)
Site Classification: Submerged Pre-Gap Alien Derelict / Entropic Necropolis
Physical Size: ~12 miles in diameter; composed of concentric obsidian rings and colossal black monoliths
Thermal Paradox: Ambient temperature inside the city sits at a freezing , completely unaffected by the surrounding millions-of-degrees plasma
Illumination: Absolute zero luminescence (Photons are rapidly absorbed by an ambient entropic null-field; all standard flashlights and flares suffer 75% reduced radius)
Inhabitants: Quiescent pre-Gap automatons, dormant entropic wraiths, and occasional research dive teams from the Deep Cultures Institute
Navigational Threat: Massive gravitational shear and localized sensor blackout
Overview: The Impossible Darkness
Adrift within the crushing, thermonuclear depths of the solar mantle of Mataras lies what astronomers and astrophysicists consider one of the most baffling anomalies in the galaxy: Ezorod, popularly known as The Blind City.
Floating thousands of miles below the safe orbits of The Burning Archipelago, Ezorod exists in a state of absolute physical impossibility. While the surrounding plasma burns at millions of degrees under millions of atmospheres of pressure, the city rests inside an impenetrable, self-generating entropic null-field. This field does not merely deflect stellar heat; it actively devours it, maintaining the interior at sub-zero temperatures.
Furthermore, the field acts as an all-consuming optical sink. Photons entering the perimeter are instantaneously absorbed, rendering the entire twelve-mile megalopolis pitch-black. A starship or sun-diver submersible penetrating the outer veil transitions in a microsecond from the blinding, golden glare of the deep sun into a silent, terrifying abyss of freezing shadow.

Architecture & Geography of Shadows
For the few daredevil explorers and researchers of the Deep Cultures Institute who have managed to land sun-divers upon its exterior ramps, Ezorod reveals an architecture completely alien to the modern Pact Worlds:
1. The Obsidian Monoliths
The city is built from an unknown, non-reflective black mineral resembling crystalline obsidian:
- The material exhibits near-infinite compressive strength and is completely immune to radiation and acidic erosion.
- Towers rise miles into the freezing darkness, connected by sweeping causeways that possess no guardrails or handholds.
- The buildings feature angular geometric portals designed for beings significantly taller than standard humanoids, with door controls configured for multi-jointed limbs or telepathic touch.
2. The Spire of the Void Core
At the dead center of the concentric city rings rises a single, colossal spire measuring five miles in height:
- Deep within its subterranean base hums the source of the city’s impossible physics: a massive, spherical containment engine that scholars hypothesize houses an artificial singularity or a captured fragment of the Negative Energy Plane.
- The engine operates autonomously, drawing the star’s fusion energy into its core to sustain the entropic shield while bleeding excess entropy into the surrounding solar mantle.
3. The Crypts of the Stasis Wardens
Riddling the lower levels of the obsidian towers are thousands of hexagonal stasis pods:
- Most pods are cracked open and empty, coated in a fine, metallic ash.
- A small fraction of the capsules remain energized, holding shadowy, indistinct silhouettes frozen in temporal stasis. Any attempt to interface with the pods’ alien computer terminals triggers defensive protocols, awakening skeletal, multi-limbed constructs crafted from black metal.
The Deep-Sun Hazards
Exploring Ezorod is an expedition into lethal extremes:
- The Optical Drain: Light behaves abnormally within the city. Flashlights, chemical glow-rods, and magical light spells are choked into dim, sickly glows that extend only a few feet. Computer screens must be set to maximum contrast to be legible.
- The Psychic Resonance: The city is widely believed by the Lashunta of Asanatown to be one of the primary focal points broadcasting the agonizing Psychic Wail. Telepaths who set foot inside the city suffer severe migraine penalties and catch fragmented psychic echoes of screaming civilizations and collapsing stars.
- Gravitational Shear: As Ezorod drifts through the solar convection currents, turbulent plasma waves crash against its entropic barrier, generating localized gravimetric eddies that can crush an approaching sun-diver against the city’s docking pylons.
Campaign & Adventure Hooks
- The Dark Dive: The Deep Cultures Institute in Stellacuna contracts the party to pilot an advanced sun-diver submersible to Ezorod to retrieve a pristine power capacitor from the lower tiers of the Spire of the Void Core. Once inside, the party discovers they are not alone: an elite strike team of drow operatives from Apostae is attempting to weaponize the engine.
- The Awoken Sentinel: A massive seismic jolt in the solar mantle awakens a primeval guardian construct inside Ezorod. The machine activates the city’s ancient thrusters, causing the entire twelve-mile necropolis to begin rising through the solar mantle on a collision course with The Burning Archipelago. The PCs must dive into the star, board the city, and disable its propulsion core before impact.
- The Thawed Sovereign: An ancient stasis pod inside the Crypts thaws unexpectedly, releasing a preserved pre-Gap entity that communicates only through direct telepathy. Confused and horrified by the passage of millennia, the entity takes refuge in the ruins, demanding to know the fate of its long-lost creators.
