Astrogation & Structural Overview: The Galaxy’s Bazaar
Sprawling across several dense, multi-deck station blocks along the outer rim of The Ring, The Freemarket is the commercial engine of Absalom Station. Positioned directly at the junction where incoming passengers and freight disembark from the docking spokes of The Arms, this colossal market is the first and last stop for spacers, merchants, corporate factors, and smugglers traversing the Pact Worlds.
Within its labyrinthine avenues, goods from every charted planet and uncharted frontier world in The Vast change hands round the clock. Lit by the garish glow of competing holographic advertisements, echoing with polyglot trade chatter, and perfumed with the scent of sizzled street food and ozone, The Freemarket is a vibrant, anarchic testament to the power of free trade.

Major Market Wards & Trading Sectors
1. Tech-Row
The premier retail and black-market district for personal technology. Crowded with neon-lit workshops and workbench stalls, Tech-Row is where spacers and mercenaries buy and modify their gear:
- Cybernetics & Bioware: Certified augment clinics operated by Vercite surgeons sit side-by-side with back-alley chop shops offering overclocked dermal plating and illicit optical reticles.
- Comms & Computer Decks: Custom hacking rigs, quantum encryption keys, comms arrays, and personal datapads assembled by talented Ysoki tinkerers.
2. The Spiceway
A sensory explosion of colors and aromas. Vendors from across the solar system hawk culinary delicacies, fresh hydroponic produce, and distilled spirits:
- Castrovelian Silk-Fruit & Nectars: Sweet, psychoactive fruits and medicinal plants harvested from the rainforests of Sovyrian.
- Akitonian Dust-Chilies & Grilled Meats: Fiery street noodles and smoked beast-steaks served from sizzling open-air woks to hungry dockers coming off shift.
- Shirren Hylaxian Honey: Nutrient-rich crystallizations brewed in the hive-gardens of Liavara.
3. The Metalworks
Occupying the lower tiers where heavy freight elevators rise from the cargo decks of The Spike. Massive warehouse stalls display surplus starship bulkheads, refurbished plasma turbines, mining drills from The Diaspora, and private weapon arsenals. Heavy gunsmiths customize laser rifles, ballistic slugthrowers, and powered close-combat blades under the watchful eyes of armed security drones.
4. The Antiquities Arcade
Tucked away in the quieter, curtained alleys of the market’s upper catwalks. Here, curio dealers, eccentric antiquarians, and fences buy and sell rare pre-Gap artifacts, historical art, and cosmic relics recovered from ancient ruins. While much of the inventory consists of fraudulent replicas, authenticated pre-Gap datadiscs and Golarion heirlooms command millions of credits from collectors and agents of the Starfinder Society.
Market Politics & Corporate Encroachment
The Syndicate vs. AbadarCorp
While AbadarCorp operates massive banking towers and corporate storefronts along Cred-Stick Plaza, the majority of the market is owned and operated by the Freemarket Merchant Syndicate—a coalition of independent stallholders, family guilds, and immigrant shopkeepers. The Syndicate fiercely defends its tax-exempt barter traditions against corporate attempts to annex retail zones, impose exclusive electronic payment systems, or displace small vendors with automated mega-outlets.
The Black-Market Undercurrent
Because millions of items enter the Freemarket directly from the adjacent docks of The Arms, the bazaar is a notorious clearinghouse for smuggled goods. Behind the legitimate storefronts lie hidden speakeasies, private gambling dens, and discreet backrooms where forged diplomatic travel visas, stolen starship transponders, and illegal munitions are traded beneath the noses of bribed Station Security inspectors.
Campaign & Adventure Hooks
- The Counterfeit Cred-Storm: A flood of untraceable counterfeit AbadarCorp cred-sticks hits the vendors of Tech-Row, triggering riots when currency terminals shut down across the sector. The Merchant Syndicate hires the party to track the forged cred-sticks to an underground technomantic press operating out of a hidden basement beneath The Spiceway.
- The Midnight Relic Auction: An illicit private broker in the Antiquities Arcade advertises a secret midnight auction for an intact pre-Gap star-chart leading to an unlooted temple-city in The Vast. The party is retained by a wealthy patron—or Guidance itself—to attend the auction, outbid or outmaneuver rivals from the Aspis Consortium, and survive when armed raiders breach the room.
- The Menagerie Escape: A containment crate holding a breeding pair of predatory, venom-spitting ksariks from Castrovel ruptures in the center of the crowded Spiceway during midday shopping rush. With Station Security paralyzed by panic, the party must protect innocent shoppers, contain the rampaging beasts, and uncover who was illegally importing apex predators into the station.
