NPC Profile
Full Name Ebbert Boltcrafter, of Clan Boltcrafter Ancestry & Class Shield Dwarf Veteran / Dungeoneering Practicalist (Fighter 6 / Expert Rigger) Role & Occupation Proprietor of Ebbert’s Outfitters, retired master spelunker of Dwarvenhearth Affiliation Delver’s Guild (Honored Senior Member), Order of Light (Reverent of Torag) Location Ebbert’s Outfitters, eastern arcade of Delver’s Square, Midtown
🧔 Overview & Personality
Ebbert Boltcrafter is the indispensable, iron-spined supplier of Delver’s Square. Having spent over twenty harrowing years navigating the collapsed galleries, poisoned siphons, and mechanical deathtraps of upper Dwarvenhearth, Ebbert survived what claimed dozens of his kin through one guiding philosophy: respect the dark, check your ropes twice, and never trust enchanted glass over honest dwarven steel.
Ebbert is gruff, blunt, and completely devoid of high-society pretension. He treats gold pieces from an imperial aristocrat with the exact same dry skepticism as copper pennies from a sewer-scavenging delver. He possesses an uncanny, encyclopedic memory for subterranean hazards, geological strata, and spelunking logistics. If an adventurer tries to buy equipment he knows is wrong for their stated destination, he will refuse to sell it until he has explained—in loud, colorful dwarven profanity—why their current plan will get them killed.
Despite his cantankerous exterior, Ebbert carries a heavy, paternal burden for the delvers who frequent his counter. He keeps a battered brass bell behind his desk; whenever the bells of the Cathedral of the First Radiance toll for an expedition lost beneath the Spire, Ebbert rings his small bell once and downs a shot of bitter barley mash in grim remembrance.
🪓 Physical Appearance
Ebbert is built like an iron anvil—broad, dense, and unyielding. He stands four feet, four inches tall, with arms like cured oak boughs from decades of hauling mining winches and hammering steel wedges into solid granite. His thick beard, a salt-and-iron gray braided into three heavy cords clasped with lead rings, reaches his belt. His face is deeply creased and etched with old subterranean scars, including a faint purple burn along his jaw from an encounter with subterranean caustic mold.
He dresses in durable, heavy-duty leather riggers’ clothes reinforced with brass rivets and oiled canvas. Strapped to his chest is a custom tool harness containing calipers, plumb bobs, chalk stones, and a miniature dwarven prybar. He rarely takes off his thick, grease-darkened leather boots, each tipped with tempered iron caps capable of crushing stone.
🤝 Relationship with the Party & Delver’s Square
Ebbert views the party with growing professional respect, recognizing that they have managed to plunge into horrors like Pythoness House and survive the machinations of deep cults.
What Ebbert Provides:
- Unquestioned Gear Quality: Ebbert’s stock at Ebbert’s Outfitters is guaranteed. If a rope, piton, or folding pole purchased from his shop snaps under normal usage conditions, he replaces it free of charge and provides a full store credit.
- Subterranean Survival Lore: For adventurers willing to listen over a flask of spirits, Ebbert provides situational bonuses on PF2e Survival and Dungeoneering Lore checks regarding subterranean cave-ins, air toxicity, and structural fault lines beneath Ptolus.
- Rescue Rigging & Heavy Hardware: When delvers get pinned behind rockfalls or deep in the Banewarrens, Ebbert can supply heavy hydraulic jacks, pulleys, and structural timber shoring within an hour.

🧭 Story Hooks & Campaign Connections
- The Family Sigil: Ebbert’s clan originally fled the upper reaches of Dwarvenhearth during the Ghul Wars. He promises to outfit the party with permanent masterwork gear if they locate and recover the Boltcrafter Clan Foundry Seal from the sunken forge-halls beneath the city.
- The Counterfeit Pitons: Ebbert discovers that someone has slipped a crate of brittle slag-iron pitons into his inventory. After tracing the shipment, he discovers the forged stamps lead back to a front company owned by the Killraven Crime League, who are attempting to extort suppliers in Delver’s Square.
- Emergency Banewarren Evacuation: When seismic shocks from the Banewarrens shake the foundation of Midtown, Ebbert is one of the few veterans capable of calculating whether the shafts beneath Delver’s Square will collapse. He calls on the party to secure the bedrock braces before disaster strikes.
