🏛️ Overview
Old Timiro is the living cradle of human chivalry in southern Eraedal. Centuries ago, it was the original stone fortress founded by the heroic human pilgrims who braved the savage wilderness following the Elf-Dwarf War. For generations it served as the bustling imperial capital of the kingdom, until political dominance, royal ambition, and commercial fleets shifted eastward to the glittering new seat of Credia.
Today, Old Timiro is a weathered, proud city of faded glory and cracked cobblestones. While it has lost a third of its population over the decades to Credia and the booming eastern port of Aracho, its historic streets remain vibrant and fiercely independent. The proudest human and elven noble dynasties refuse to abandon their walled ancestral estates, and the city boasts the lowest slave population in the kingdom (less than 10%).
Most crucially, Old Timiro remains the beating spiritual heart of the realm: it is the supreme seat of the Order of Light, home to the majestic Cathedral of Light, and the staging ground for a bitter political cold war between its righteous secular magistrate and an intensely ambitious, corrupt Cardinal.
⚔️ The Power Struggle: The Duke vs. The Cardinal
Old Timiro is torn between two diametrically opposed rulers whose fierce clashes over policy and law define daily life:
1. Duke Maximillion Spatenrok (The Magistrate)
- Role: Appointed Royal Magistrate and hereditary lord of House Spatenrok, residing in the weathered wings of the Old Royal Palace.
- Character: An honorable, disciplined, unyielding veteran champion and statesman. He believes passionately in the ancient chivalric oaths of Timro, works tirelessly to alleviate urban poverty, and refuses to bow before ecclesiastical tyranny.
- The Struggle: Spatenrok finds himself constantly undercut by the Cardinal’s bribery and purchased magistrates, who treat the Duke as a mere figurehead.
2. Cardinal Palance Medoan (The Supreme Prelate)
- Role: Supreme Head of the Order of Light within the Timro Kingdom, residing in the lavish Cardinal’s Palace.
- Character: Second in worldly authority only to King Gedro himself, Cardinal Medoan is an arrogant, brilliant, and ruthlessly cunning political mastermind. He adheres to the doctrine that the ends invariably justify the means, employing covert assassinations, blackmail, and backstabbing to crush opposition.
- Ecclesiastical Network: Medoan’s authority extends across every parish in the kingdom and directly into the overseas colonies—including the volatile diocese of Enry, where his dispatched inquisitors fanatically persecute schismatics.

1. The Old Royal Palace
A sprawling, multi-towered stone castle overlooking the western valley, equipped with a grand ballroom, king’s hall, 24 guest suites, and fortified drawbridges. While portions of the palace have been mothballed due to shifting royal budgets, it serves as the administrative seat of Duke Maximillion Spatenrok, Duchess Rita, and the royal household guard.
2. The Avenue of Kings
A broad triumphal avenue flanking the palace parade grounds, lined with colossal carved granite statues honoring the founding sovereigns of Timro: Spatenrok the First, Belgerphon the Great, Jonquil the First, Trophon the First, Acorok the First, Gedro the Second, Acorok the Third, Nerrak the First, and Acorok the Fifth.
3. The Grand Cathedral of Light
The spiritual center of the Timro Kingdom, this breathtaking monument of white marble and soaring stained-glass rose windows honors the triumvirate of the Order of Light:
- Sarenrae (The Dawnflower): Revered with dawn hymns and holy cleansing fires.
- Iomedae (The Inheritor): Revered with knightly vigils, consecrated blades, and chivalric oaths.
- Erastil (Old Deadeye): Honored with harvest wreaths and rural agrarian tithes.
- Offices of Petition: Flanking administrative cloisters where thousands of pilgrims, monks, and parish priests from across Eraedal arrive to petition the Cardinal for ecclesiastical dispensations and inquisitorial rulings.
4. The Timiro College
One of the most prestigious academic institutions in all of Eraedal, renowned for its libraries of ancient cartography, natural philosophy, and languages. The college attracts ambitious scholars, young scions, and elven sages from the Land of the South Winds, the Eastern Territories, and as far north as Bizantium.
🎯 Adventure Hooks in Old Timiro
- The Cardinal’s Inquisitorial Writ: Duke Spatenrok covertly contacts Dolan Stormcutter and his companions in Vernazza, warning them that Cardinal Medoan has authorized a secret inquisition cell to investigate “apocryphal divine child prophecies” in the Floenry chain. The party must intercept Medoan’s couriers in Old Timiro to discover who in the north sold out Dolan’s existence.
- The College Archive Theft: A scholar from Timiro College uncovers a pre-cataclysmic parchment detailing the true subterranean connection between the 3-ley-line pyramid on Enry and the slumbering Galchutt beneath Eraedal. Before she can publish her findings, she is marked for assassination by Medoan’s black-robed agents, forcing the party into a desperate rooftop rescue.
- The Poisoned Chalice: At an aristocratic banquet in the House of Nobles, Duke Spatenrok collapses from a rare paralytic venom imported from the Western Empire. The party has twelve hours to navigate Old Timiro’s cracked alleys, expose the Cardinal’s complicit poisoner, and secure an antidote from the college alchemists.
