Droskar: The Dark Smith

QUOTE

“Do not waste your fleeting breath dreaming of an original masterpiece. Strike the anvil again. And again. Copy the works of the masters, grind until the bone shows, and let the sweat of your slaves buy your evolution.”
— The Obsidian Tablets, Unholy Mandate of the Gray Forger

Droskar is the bitter, tyrannical god of endless, soul-crushing toil, slavery, cheating, industry without passion, and unrewarded labor. Once Torag’s most brilliant and celebrated divine apprentice, he fell from grace when his utter lack of creative imagination drove him to plagiarize, deceive, and exploit others. Cast out from the halls of Forgeheart, he is regarded as anathema by the rest of the divine family. Droskar serves as the dark patron of the duergar (deep dwarves), rogue industrial syndicates, and ruthless overseers who view mortal lives merely as cheap fuel to drive the machines of production.

  • Anathema: Spend time crafting an object for purely aesthetic, artistic, or non-functional beauty; show genuine charity, mercy, or uncompensated relief to a slave or laborer; permit a subordinate to rest when production targets are unfulfilled.

Appearance & Iconography

Droskar manifests as a massive, asymmetric, and deeply grotesque dwarven smith. His skin is a soot-choked, ash-gray color, covered in infected chemical burns, blisters, and oozing metal scalds that he completely ignores out of stubborn pride. His long hair and beard are unbraided—a sign of absolute social disgrace among dwarves—and choke with greasy charcoal soot and jagged iron shrapnel. His left arm is dramatically over-developed from centuries of rhythmic, unceasing hammering, while his blank, unblinking eyes burn with the dim, radioactive green glow of a dying under-city smelting furnace.

His unholy symbol is a simple, deliberately crude iron arc representing a broken or heavy master collar, or a cracked anvil dripping with black sludge. Sacred animals include creatures defined by mandatory, mechanical group labor, such as termites, mole rats, and pack mules driven to exhaustion.

Canonical Eraedal History & Mythos

The Greatest Plagiarism

Before his exile, Droskar was Torag’s favorite student. He possessed a flawless technical mind and an unyielding work ethic that could keep him at the forge for years without sleep. However, as the centuries dragged on, Torag noticed a fatal flaw in his student’s work: Droskar’s creations, while structurally functional, entirely lacked a soul, creative spark, or artistic passion.

Desperate to maintain his master’s praise, Droskar began secretly breaking into the private vaults of his sibling deities—stealing Bolka’s jewelry schematics, copying Magrim’s runic formulas, and plagiarizing Torag’s own fortress designs. When Torag discovered this massive, systematic deception, he stripped Droskar of his titles, shattered his master hammer, and banished him to the deepest, most toxic subterranean pockets of the Darklands.

The Subjugation of the Duergar

Following his catastrophic fall, Droskar sought to forge his own independent workforce to build an empire that would rival his father’s Sky Citadels. He targeted the Duergar—a sub-ancestry of deep dwarves who had been abandoned or separated from the main migration lines during the grueling Quest for Sky.

Finding them broken, exhausted, and surrounded by subterranean predators, Droskar did not offer them salvation or comfort (like Folgrit). He offered them a bitter, transactional covenant: I will grant you the industrial strength to crush your predators, provided you chain yourselves to my anvils forever. The duergar accepted, turning their entire culture into a grim, joyless meritocracy where a dwarf’s societal value is measured purely by the metrics of their daily physical output.

Divine Relationships

Droskar is completely isolated from the cosmic hierarchy, operating as an aggressive, resentful pariah who interacts with other gods only to steal their intellectual properties or sabotage their works.

Deity / FactionDynamic & Lore
ToragThe Broken Bond. Droskar harbors a psychotic, deeply resentful hatred for his former master. He actively commands his duergar syndicates to infiltrate and sabotage Torag’s surface forge networks, attempting to prove that raw, unguided industrial volume can surpass his father’s precision.
MagrimThe Labor Dispute. Magrim values disciplined, purposeful communal labor that earns a spirit a clean, honorable rest. Droskar’s philosophy of endless, unrewarding sweatshops strips away the spiritual value of work, turning souls into hollowed-out husks before they ever reach the ledger.
AsmodeusThe Competitive Contract. Droskar and the Prince of Darkness share a love for tyranny and institutional slavery. However, Asmodeus views Droskar’s systems as incredibly crude, unrefined, and chaotic, preferring elegant legal contracts to bind souls, whereas Droskar relies on raw iron chains and heavy whips.
AbadarIndustrial Theft. Abadar values structured commerce, intellectual property rights, and fair patent laws. Droskar’s explicit edict to plagiarize, copy, and duplicate successful commercial designs makes his underground factories an immediate threat to Abadaran merchant monopolies.
TruddVisceral Contempt. Droskar views Trudd’s easygoing, jovial nature and his boisterous love for celebratory drinking brawls as an absolute embarrassment. Trudd treats Droskar’s enforcers with zero quarter, smashing their slave caravans wherever his shield armies encounter them.

Campaign Context: Eraedal & Spire Notes

Subterranean Factory Grid

Within the structural architecture of your campaign world, Droskar’s portfolio represents the dark side of the Spire of Axis’s deep excavation networks. While your deniable special forces unit tracks Urgathoan ghouls through Borlon’s sewer lines, remember that the deep-level mining operations and automated foundries tucked behind the White Cliff Mines or the Foundry Grid operate on Droskar’s frequency.

His cultists—often corrupt human merchant syndicates collaborating with exiled duergar deep-miners—frequently use regional military occupations to strip-mine ancient elven ley lines, converting captured refugees into throwaway slave labor to mass-produce cheap, unaligned arms for the corrupt Western Empire.
